"Tally smiled. The revelers were wearing masks." Uglies pg. 10. I think this ironic because, they are already pretty.

• Why do you think Tally choose to wear a mask to a party deemed "white tie"?

Because Tally is is ugly and she is trying to get into a pretties party. She needed a disguise.

Harder-to-find or more precious materials would probably have been used to embellish more important masks in ancient times, as they are now.
